Water Monitor

Water Monitor

The maximum weight for this species is over 50 kg (110 lb). It is the second largest lizard in the world after the Komodo dragon. These lizards are often characterized by a dark brown or blackish coloration with yellow spots on the underside - these yellow markings tend to fade gradually with age. They use their powerful jaws, serrated teeth, and sharp claws for both predation and defense. In captivity, their lifespan is about 11–25 years, depending on conditions; in the wild, it is much shorter.
