Blue Krait

Blue Krait

Blue or Malayan Krait is found in Southeast Asia. In Thailand, it is one of the most venomous snake species. It can be up to 1.5 meters long. They prefer to live close to the water and rice fields. Often live in rat holes in the ground. They are mostly active at night, during the day they are lethargic, shy, and try to cover their head with their tail. On the back, it has a pattern of about 30 dark brown, black or bluish-black transverse stripes on the body and tail, which are narrowed and rounded at the sides. The dark transverse stripes are separated by wide white spaces. They feed on other snakes, lizards, and frogs. Their bite leads to coma, brain death, asphyxiation, which are the main causes of death. They usually do not bite during the day, but they bite quite often at night. Death usually occurs 12-24 hours after being bitten. About 60% of all bites of this crate lead to the death of a person.
